Founded in 1969, through the efforts of Ralph Tate the Crescent Ski Council is an organization of ski clubs from the Carolinas region. Its purpose is to promote skiing and fellowship between the ski clubs and ski organizations within its geographical boundaries. Through the Council‘s activities, there has developed a warm camaraderie of Carolina skiers that is recognized wherever they assemble.
Five major functions of the Council to benefit the members are to: (1) provide for long distance ski trips to the larger ski resorts of the Rocky Mountains, Canada and Europe; (2) provide for racing competitions between its member clubs; (3) publish a number of newsletters to keep its membership informed of its activities; (4) arrange social events that are open to all members of its member clubs; and (5) arrange major ski weekends for all its members.

The Board of Directors is comprised of two representatives from each member club, the elected Officers, and the appointed Committee Chairpersons. The Board meets four times a year and all members are welcome to attend these meetings. At the present time, the Council has 22 clubs. There are over 6,000 individual members of the Council, making it the largest ski organization in the Carolinas
